Join us for a week of fun-filled adventure - trekking across the tallest free standing mountain in the world - Mount Kilimanjaro!
Bring your camera, you’re not going to want to forget these sights.
If you have previous hiking and backpacking experience or are willing to train prior to your Kilimanjaro attempt - then Machame Route is the choice for you! Unparalleled beauty, diverse scenery, and a brisk route to the summit make this "the Backpacker's Choice."
Wake up and eat a hearty breakfast - a breakfast buffet, omelette bar, coffee, and tea are all offered at Springlands hotel. Your head guide will meet you at the hotel this morning to double check you have all of the gear you need for your trip. If you are missing any gear (ski pants, hiking poles, gloves, sleeping bags) you may rent them from the rental shop at Springlands hotel: Check out the rental prices for more information.
Your large bag must weigh less than 30 lbs, this is a requirement that the Mount Kilimanjaro Porters Society has outlined to protect porters from carrying too heavy of loads up the mountain. You will carry a daypack which should contain: snacks, water, sunscreen, and any other daily needs. Once your bags are loaded, you will drive from Moshi to Machame Gate, which takes around 50 minutes. You will be provided with a sack lunch for this day - roasted chicken, sweet bread, tiny bananas, and cookies are a normal assortment. As your guides and porters prepare, be on the watch for wildlife! It is possible to see monkeys (both Blue monkeys and Colobus monkeys) in this area. As you depart the Machame gate, you traverse through the rainforest until you begin to notice a change in the plant life right before you reach Machame Camp. Throughout the rainforest, you will encounter level ground, gradual inclines, as well as makeshift stairs up to Machame camp.
Once you reach Machame Camp, you will follow your guide to the registration office. Here you will sign in and register that you made it to Machame Camp. Your campsite will have been prepared for you by your porters - a tent for your party and a mess tent for eating and socializing will be ready for use. Your guides will let you know what time to expect dinner. After dinner, your guides will go through the health and safety protocol of checking your heart rate and oxygen level to record on their wellness chart - at Kopa, we care immensely about your safety and wellbeing while on the mountain. After checking your health and determining that you are well, your guides will discuss the next day’s plans and explain what adventures are in store for you. As the beginning of your journey settles in, you will retire for the day in your tent on your comfortable foam mats.
This booking is for the 6 Day or 7 Day Machame Route (choose your desired length in online check-out). The Machame Route begins on the southern side of Mount Kilimanjaro before continuing east where you will pass Mount Kilimanjaro’s southern ice field. The Machame Route is great for anyone with previous hiking experience. The 7 Day option allows for more acclimatization and rest - raising the success rate of climbers for reaching the summit. Bring your gear, your enthusiasm, and your smile - we’ve got the rest!
