Kilimanjaro Packing List
Here you can find a list of everything you could possibly need on the mountain. We will share things you will need for particular climate zones on the mountain. We highly recommend separating your pack by climate zone, rather than by similar items. See the video below for a detailed guide on how to pack your bag!

Rental Recommendations
Some gear is absolutely essential to your success on the mountain. However, for one reason or another, you are much better off renting certain pieces of equipment once you arrive in Tanzania, as opposed to traveling with it. See below for a list of recommended rental equipment:
- Thermal Sleeping Bag
- It is cheaper to rent a sleeping bag than it would be to check a bag with your airline.
- Hiking Poles
- Many airlines do not allow you to carry on hiking poles due to weapons rules.
- However, if you are already planning on checking a bag, bring the poles you are used to!
- Any thermal clothing you didn't pack
- There are a variety of rental options for thermal tops and bottoms that will surely keep you warm on the mountain!

Additional Tips & Tricks
- Your large pack, to be carried by your porters, is limited to 30 pounds for their safety. Overweight or extra luggage will require an extra porter at $100 per trek.
- Bring at least $400 cash, not counting tips for your guides, porters, and staff. See our Tipping Guide for a guide on how much to tip on your trek.
- Luggage limit per person on domestic flights is 15-20 kg per person (checked-in and hand luggage).
- Store electronics in sealed water-proof bags.
- Compression packing cubes save a lot of room for packing! We highly recommend using them. They help with fitting everything you need into your pack, and also organize most effectively. See our video above for how to best organize them.
- Every morning on the trek, plan to pack water, snacks, toilet paper sunglasses, camera, rain pants, and jacket at a minimum in your day pack. Add any other items you need during the day, since you will not see your porters until you reach camp.
- You may want to bring some older pieces of warm clothing as gifts for your guides and porters or donations to the Mount Kilimanjaro Porters Society.
- You can leave extra luggage in a locked storage room at the Springlands Hotel for no charge.
- You can leave valuables in a safe deposit box at the Springlands Hotel for $1/day.
